Sunday Updates: NFLX, DIS, CMCSA, FWONA (Issue #3)
Recent Update:
Netflix (NFLX) just lost 200,000 subscribers last quarter. This caused a ~50% drop in their stock and the selling of the stock by Bill Ackman’s Pershing Square fund which bought in back in January. The future for Netflix is uncertain. Not because of the fall of the share price, but the crippling of their strategy (for more on Netflix go here).
Overrated:
NFLX: Netflix is overrated because for those who do not take time to understand the Streaming Wars believe (until recently) that Netflix had won the Streaming Wars. This is not the case. They conquered the first and maybe even second round, but there is a lot to come and Netflix has to negotiate new territory and with it new problems.
CMCSA: Although Peacock owns highly popular content like The Office and Parks and Recreation that’s almost all Peacock has. So it may be worth it for die-hard Office fans(like myself), but other than that the service leaves a lot to be desired in its library.
Underrated:
FWONA: Liberty Media Formula One is the most underrated because it has an international viewer base of 1.55b people in sports–an extremely sticky niche–when they can monetize them on multiple levels. To be fair there are other major contributors to the success of the business, but the streaming side is very powerful.
DIS: Disney gets a lot of hype for Disney+, but I would say they are underrated for all the other portions of streaming they control. For example, Disney has the rights to UFC through ESPN+ and has one of the best international strategies with Disney+ Hotstar in India
